We expect to start shipping cargo in June on prior Virgin America routes. Our Airbus fleet of 68 airplanes will offer similar capabilities to our Boeing belly fleet today, but with a greatly expanded route network. That translates to a huge increase in our overall cargo capacity.
What it means:
Our Self-Service Pick-Up has been deployed for several months in Seattle’s Alaska Air Cargo facility, and is now being used 20+ times a day. There are two self-service locations in this facility: in the lobby and in the cargo bay in the warehouse.
Feedback has been positive, especially for repeat customers, who can print delivery receipts and go directly to the warehouse to pick up shipments – bypassing the customer lobby and lines.
We are planning to deploy Self-Service Pick-Up in several new stations very soon, including ANC, LAX, and SFO, with more to follow later in the year.

If you need to get big stuff to the biggest state, we’ve got the freighters to make it happen. You can ship large items to Seattle via any convenient transportation mode — air, truck, rail, boat — and we’ll transport them to Alaska via our new 737-700 freighters. The new freighter fleet has bigger (40,000 lb.) payloads and configurations for oversized items. The freighters run daily routes between Seattle and Alaska, and we have regularly scheduled service to 19 Alaskan communities.
Alaska Air Cargo serves 100 destinations in North and Central America, and we are the fastest scheduled freight service to Alaska. And you’ll receive competitive pricing on any items you ship, of all sizes and configurations.
You can book online, or call 1-800-2Alaska for more information.
